Engelberg to Mount Titlis: Cable Car Ride

Engelberg, one of Switzerland’s most spectacular places, is located in the heart of the country. This alpine town, which is home to numerous lakes and wood chalets, is a popular tourist destination since it also acts as a gateway to several neighbouring locations worth seeing. A short drive from Engelberg leads to acreages of beautiful meadows, zigzag ski tracks, and the high Rigidalstock mountain, layered with steps. Otherwise, Engelberg is a historic city with monasteries, Trübsee glacier lake, banking and financial firms, chocolate and watch stores.

Lucerne, Interlaken, and Lake Trübsee

Engelberg can be reached in under 40-minutes by car and 60-minutes by train from Lucerne. The travel from Interlaken to Engelberg takes 1.30 hours by car and three hours by train. If you take the train, Trübsee is 40 minutes from Engelberg. But first, a word about the town: Engelberg is a tiny Swiss village surrounded by towering glacier peaks.

Many people refer to it as Switzerland’s snow wonderland. Travelling via Engelberg will also introduce you to a large number of visitors that come to this Swiss hamlet before heading to Mount Titlis and the four lakes that surround it. Engelberg is approximately a 10-minute drive from the Titlis ticket office.

Engelberg to Mount Titlis

Because most customers arrive with a reservation, the Titlis ticket booth is never quite packed. Carry a raincoat, though, as drizzle can catch you off guard in the summer. After purchasing a ticket, proceed to the Air Tram hallway by climbing the steps. Wait until you see the gorgeous, black-tinted Cable Cars nearing the terminal before proceeding.

The personnel will take you to a queue, and when it is your turn, the Cable Car gate will open, and you will be able to enjoy the comfort of the cushioned interiors. As soon as, the Cable Car begins to drift away from the terminal, suspended solely on a cable wire, adrenaline rushes in.

If it helps, the ground level features very refreshing pine trees and Swiss lakes. A few sightings of Swiss cows and houses may sometimes usher in the countryside atmosphere. Meanwhile, on the parallel ropeways, more cable cars pass you by. Every passing cable car had flags printed from several nations on the rear, which delighted me. The most passable representation of unity in diversity! Since 1927, these heated cable cars have been operating on the track. 

It’s a 60-minute cable car trip that will take you through the Swiss peaks several times, each time revealing the charm of its dew-induced green forests. Even though sightseers have been enjoying these breathtaking vistas since the early 1800s, most families come year after year to recapture the alpine charm. The revolving cable cars are the favoured mode of transportation since they provide a 360-degree view of the Swiss landscapes.

It gets even more spectacular when you get closer to the glacier ice mountains steeped in snowy legends. The last five minutes are the most captivating since they provide a glimpse of Titlis’s snow-covered peaks. The postcard-perfect snowscapes fade away as the cable car approaches the station, decked with elegant yellow metallic pillars against a red backdrop. That’s it! You’ll know you’ve arrived at Mount Titlis, the highest summit in the Northern Range of the Susten Pass at 3000 metres above sea level, as soon as you reach this station.
