Mumbai and Pune Make Masks Compulsory: Violators Will Be Arrested
Maharashtra has reported 1800 coronavirus cases to this day, with over 1000 in Mumbai and 800 in other suburbs. Given the current situation and the uprising numbers of covid19 positive cases in the state, Mumbai and Pune have made it mandatory to wear protective masks. In the ongoing outbreak, Mumbai has emerged as a coronavirus hotspot. Following this, the city’s municipal authorities announced this big news. Effective immediately, every Mumbai and Pune resident will have to compulsorily wear masks at all meetings, offices, public places, and also, inside vehicles. As per the order, a person who fails to comply with this rule will either face strict action or be arrested.
With a thriving population of 1.84 crores, the incredibly congested Mumbai has reported over 785 corona positive cases and 50 deaths so far. Recent being two new cases found in the densely-populated slum area of Dharavi. The Greater Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi signed the order, “These masks may be standard mask available with the chemist or even homemade washable masks and can be reused after proper washing and disinfecting them.” Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray earnestly requested people to wear masks every time they step out of their homes.
After Mumbai, Pune has also made it mandatory for everyone to wear protective masks in the public area after the coronavirus cases near 200 in the city. The district collector Naval Kishore Ram said, “Masks are necessary for preventing the spread of the virus. Therefore, we have ordered government employees and masses to wear masks in public places.” Additionally, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Ravindra Shisve announced that if a person is seen without a mask on the streets, then action will be taken under the Epidemic Diseases Act. Next in line are Nagaland, Chandigarh, and Odisha authorities who have made wearing masks compulsory.
