Movenpick Colombo: Junior Suite with Ocean and City View
Now that Sri Lanka has reopened to travellers in September 2021, I am thrilled to be back in Colombo. Following the new Covid measures in place, it only feels right to stay at a Level I facility, as they follow all pandemic guidelines and take every precaution to keep you safe. Movenpick Colombo accommodated me in their junior suite for two nights in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Board, and here’s why I’ll return to this property 100 times.

Movenpick Colombo – Level I Hotel
Face masks were worn by all hotel staff. Sanitisers may be found everywhere, from parking lots to restaurants to rooftops. My body temperature was taken as soon as I walked into the hotel premises. Furthermore, every two hours, the hotel sanitises regularly touched surfaces. In public places, I was expected to wear face masks, much like the other hotel guests. Because I arrived late at night, at 11.30 p.m., Movenpick was really kind in providing tea/coffee and food for me. As I was exhausted after the travel, the hotel brought refreshments to my room instead.
Though, I had a cup of coffee, in the ground-floor waiting area. Guests may rest in this modest waiting lounge, which features a few nest-styled seats with green cushioned upholstery and a red and white floral carpet on the floor. One of the staff walked me to the elevator as soon as I finished sipping my coffee, and my baggage followed behind. Another benefit of staying at Movenpick during the pandemic is that all of the floors are marked for social distancing. For the safety of the guests, the staff is required to wash their hands regularly, as well their daily temperature is also recorded.
Only 45 minutes from the airport, Movenpick Hotel Colombo provides 219 rooms and suites with floor to ceiling windows in the centre of Colombo. The 20th-floor suite was a beautiful sight the next morning. Beautiful views of the city and the Indian Ocean greeted me as I awoke.
Junior Suite with Ocean and City View
In each of its suites, luxury hotels such as Movenpick provide a magnificent experience. If you’re planning a trip to Movenpick, here are several reasons why you should book a junior suite. Junior suites are ideal for those who want to experience the elegance of a hotel suite. Junior Suites are just larger rooms with a single huge space that are well worth the money.
The Junior Suite at Movenpick Colombo is a single big room with a King-size bed, a luxurious bathtub, and an atmosphere of comfort to welcome business and leisure travellers. Suite guests have exclusive access to the Executive Lounge as well as premium in-room amenities such as a Nespresso coffeemaker.
Movenpick Colombo offers once in lifetime experience. The 560 ft2/52 m2 Junior Suite has a great view of the ocean and city, thanks to the large floor to ceiling windows. While the bedroom is not separated from the living room, the suite is rather large. The king-size bed is wrapped in luxurious linens and blankets in these beautiful and contemporary hotel rooms, creating a cosy and indulgent atmosphere.
All linens are sanitised in the high-temperature wash. The fire-coloured wall behind the bed add pops of contrast to the otherwise white colour scheme. This suite, which is furnished in a modern design, provides lovely areas to recover and rest after a day of visiting the hectic city.
En-suite Washroom
The en-suite bathroom is airy, with glistening marble and a separate shower and twin basin. It also has a walk-in shower. I was pleased to see the premium toiletries from Senses which comprised a shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and body lotion. Other washroom amenities include hairdryer, dental kit and so on.
In-Suite Amenities
Air conditioning is included in every room. To unwind, the deep bathtub is perfectly placed in front of expansive windows overlooking the city’s futuristic cityscape and the Indian Ocean. The LED TV has international and national channels, and free Wi-Fi allows you to stay connected with work.
A writing desk, a seating area with a sofa and a minibar are all available in the suite. To feel energized, use the fully equipped gym during your stay at Mövenpick Hotel Colombo. Junior Suites can accommodate up to 2 adults and 1 kid. Suite guests can also enjoy complimentary food and beverages at the Executive Lounge.
All guests have free access to the rooftop infinity swimming pool and jacuzzi, which offers breathtaking views of both the city and the Indian Ocean. When you stay in one of the 52 sqm Junior Suites, you may take a swim in their rooftop infinity pool beneath the stars. The infinity pool at Movenpick’s renowned Vistas rooftop bar is excellent for all those Instagram-worthy images, and it’s presently the coolest hangout in town.
Room Service
Because I work so much, having 24-hour room service, a standard benefit at premium hotels, is quite useful. At Movenpick Colombo, they’re quite adaptable and easy-going.
Laundry
Laundry service may seem trivial, yet it is a significant benefit provided by five-star hotels. I’d rather focus on my business instead of doing my own laundry! At Movenpick, I just placed my dirty clothes in the provided bag, put the bag outside my door, and the clothes were returned – cleaned, dried, pressed, and folded a few hours later. When I was ready to leave the hotel, all I had to do was pack the folded clothing in my bag.
Housekeeping
The housekeeping efficiently made my bed, changed my linens, replaced my bathrobe, kept fresh towels, supplied additional drinking water, removed the trash, and groomed the furnishings. All of these things demand time – time that I do not have!
These opulent suites are meant to cater to the most perceptive palates. The decor has a bright, airy feel to it, with subtle tones that represent Movenpick’s own, individual design. The friendly environment, along with the excellent service provided by the staff, guaranteed that I had a great time in Colombo and left with many pleasant memories of this beautiful city.
I stayed in a junior suite that was non-smoking and didn’t have any connecting doors. Smoking options are available on request. Premium hotels offer fantastic gyms with all of the equipment I need to be healthy and energised, including at least a treadmill or elliptical. The hotel gym is a vital component of a daily regimen if you believe in staying healthy. At Spa Ceylon Ayurveda Spa, you can indulge in the finest treatments, yoga, Zumba, fitness activities, and a 24-hour state-of-the-art gym.
Meals and Snacks
I also find hotel restaurants to be incredibly handy because I don’t have to travel far for lunch or dinner. And I try to eat in the hotel restaurant at least once a day. Dining at the Mövenpick Hotel in Colombo was an invariant delight, with a wide range of gastronomic alternatives to choose from. I had a fantastic breakfast at AYU, an all-day eating restaurant that serves a variety of Western, Indian, and Sri Lankan cuisine.
At Robata Grill I cherished a lunch that took me on an unassumingly Asian journey, introducing me to different Asian flavours. Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai, and Korean food were among the dishes I sampled. The ground-floor Mansion Grill and Bar treated me to some of the city’s finest steaks, whiskey and wine.
The hotel also provides guests with a large Movenpick breakfast buffet. This 24-story hotel is only five minutes from Galle Face and the beach.
