Habarana Village by Cinnamon: Kingfisher Lodge is a Cradle of Love
Staying at Kingfisher Lodge at Habarana Village allowed me to enjoy the benefits of living in harmony with nature.
In early November 2021, I stayed at Habarana Village by Cinnamon in Habarana, and I can’t wait to return to this cradle of love for many more holidays. When I arrived late at night, the staff was kind and efficient in processing my check-in. Upon arrival, I was given a paper on which I had to fill out my medical history, as well as details on my prior and prospective travels, owing to Covid19 requirements.
Meanwhile, I was handed a refreshing cucumber-based welcome drink to make the procedure more delightful while I filled out the form in a waiting area with exquisite wooden furnishings that had an antique appearance to them. I was also handed two betel leaves with purple blossoms as a traditional welcome gift.
I was given the keys to the Kingfisher Lodge, which is a honeymoon suite, not long after. Pink and purple are painted on the long rectangular keychain. It’s a good colour option because it makes it difficult to miss or lose the keys. For a solo traveller like myself, Kingfisher Lodge was a sumptuous delight. This honeymoon suite is at the further end of the resort, facing the beautiful lake, and it’s a short walk to get there. I strolled across the waiting room, which opens into a sports bar and restaurant, and then across the suites behind the pool, which lead to this luxurious cottage.
The walk is great, as I discovered the next morning when I awoke to spectacular lake views and passed through some breathtaking landscapes on my way to the restaurant for a delicious breakfast. There are many trees around, though Habarana is an upmarket village, to say the least in terms of ambience. Located off the beaten road in a remote place, Habarana Village is a large oasis with an open layout for lovers of utter quietude and romance.

Kingfisher Lodge Honeymoon Suite
The honeymoon suite in Habarana Village by Cinnamon, also known as Kingfisher Lodge, is a lake view cottage that serves as a cradle of love. During my stay, I also got the opportunity to see a baby Komodo dragon. And that’s just the start of what this suite has to offer in terms of exoticism. Returning to the suite, the exteriors, like any other cottage, include a private verandah. Except in Habarana village, where even the outdoor furniture is made of teak wood, I had two front seats and one teakwood lounger on the side.
Outside the suite, a blue-coloured hammock hangs, overlooking the lake and lush surroundings. This cottage-style apartment features one compact room with extra seating on the offset. The colours used in the décor are predominantly white, yellow, and brown. A king-size poster bed faces a white sofa with yellow cushions and windows with curtain shades in this suite. These windows face the lake, allowing you to enjoy the view from the comfort of your bed.
If you want seclusion, there are two layers of curtain blinds that block the sun during the day and provide solitude at night. It’s simple to open and close the curtains with the pulley curtain holders. Pure white canopy bed drapes loosely hang around the king-size poster bed, which comes with various pillows and a pillow menu. There are charging stations on both sides of the bed. I had a good night’s sleep, thanks to the plush bedding. The simple pleasures of life may be enjoyed in an enchanting environment at Kingfisher Lodge.
A wooden luggage stand and a white chair with a yellow cushion are located on the right side of the window. An extended work desk with an LED TV (cable) and tea/coffee amenities, as well as four bottles of mineral water, is on the left side. A safety deposit box, a standing closet, dresser, and mirror, a minibar, a telephone with IDD, a DVD player, and free Wi-Fi are among the extra in-suite facilities. The rack to stash used clothing is located to the left of the work desk. All of this is available for only US$240 each night.
Two doors, one on either side of the bed, lead to the huge washroom. This partially open-air washroom has a standing closet, an indoor cement bathtub, twin basins, his-and-hers outdoor showers, and other amenities like terrycloth bathrobes and slippers, complimentary premium herbal skin & body care products, hairdryer, vanity kit, face & bath towels, sewing kit, iron, and an ironing board.
Living so near to a lake serve as both a lullaby and a delightful alarm clock. Step out of the room and enjoy a morning cup of coffee on the veranda with your partner, or choose for a romantic meal right by the lake. This suite is an adventure in and of itself.
El Hena Restaurant
Habarana Village by Cinnamon arranged a lovely traditional candle light Sri Lankan dinner for me at El Hena, the poolside restaurant, on the first night of my stay. This restaurant is the ideal venue in the countryside to sample international cuisine. When you walk into the rustic abode of Habarana Village, you’ll see a semi-open restaurant to your right. That’s El Hena, serving the most delectable international buffets made with fresh local ingredients.
The next day, I had breakfast and lunch at El Hena beside the pool. My morning meal consisted predominantly of waffles and sausages with a few local side dishes, but the restaurant has a huge breakfast menu to pick from! I had coconut Sambal, Chicken Kalu Pol, prawns Baduma, Manioc leaves and Thibbatu Mallum, Polos Ambula, banana flower tempered, pumpkin mustard curry, Agunakola Sambal, and Ambarella Achcharu with curry leaf rice for lunch.
The food was served in clay utensils at lunch and dinner, and steel cloches were used for breakfast. Overall, each meal was delicious in its own right, with a variety of flavours. My heart was set on this delectable feast of traditional Sri Lankan flavours and worldwide specialities.
Swimming Pool Habarana Village
Sit by the poolside lounge area and enjoy some finger food while enjoying your evening coffee after an eventful day of excursions. While you are helping your evening appetite, nature will ensure that you are engaged with its entertainment. Be it a furry cat, a group of friendly monkeys, or birds descanting their evening song against a lovely backdrop of the sky besmeared in stunning sunset colours. Your poolside experience will undoubtedly leave you speechless and wanting more.
Other Activities
You may ride around the property in addition to staying in luxurious accommodation. Cycling allows you to explore every nook and cranny of Habarana hamlet because it is such a massive place. A walk around the lake is calming and relaxing, and it’s undoubtedly one of the nicest activities you can take up while you’re here.
