Take a Trip to Brindavan Gardens in Mysuru
A trip to Mysuru isn’t complete without a visit to the city’s beautiful terraced Brindavan Gardens. Nearly twelve kilometres from Mysore is a mesmerising sight. This vibrant garden in Mysore is known not only for its magnificent dam views but also for its spectacular fountain displays. So, how does a visit to the botanical Brindavan Gardens go? At first, the illuminated fountains will take up all of your attention, but your attention will gradually shift to the garden’s vast variety of plantations. The symmetrical designs are also difficult to overlook. This brings us to the question of why this garden was created in the first place.
Sir Mirza Ismail, the former Diwan of the Mysore estate, designed this panoramic terrace garden. He planned the layout of this 60-acre plot, which is laid out in a horseshoe shape. Sir Mirza Ismail is said to have been inspired by Hyder Ali’s composition – the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore. The Government of Karnataka is currently in charge of this 60-acre garden. This 19th-century garden is located next to the Krishnarajasagara Dam, which is built over the River Kaveri.
Three terraces of water fountains, foliage, and flowering plants can be found at Brindavan Gardens. Although the topiary works, creeper-covered pergolas, flowerbeds, and exotic gazebos are the main ornamentation. The musical fountains can be seen dancing to the tunes of some favourite classics in the evening. In addition, this lovely botanical garden features a lake where you can go boating. Brindavan Gardens was renovated in 2005 with a whopping INR 50 million investment.
The musical fountains were tarred up with a digitised system during the restoration, and all malfunctioning fountains were repaired. This lovely garden is one of those places where you could spend an entire day relaxing, each hour attempting a new perspective on nature. The lighting schedule at Brindavan Gardens shifts from month to month. Between January and September, the lights are turned on between the hours of 7 and 7.30 p.m. on weekdays and 7 and 9 p.m. on weekends.
From October to December, lighting can be seen between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. on weekdays and 7 to 8.30 p.m. on weekends. Videography is prohibited inside the park, and if you are caught filming, you will be fined INR 50/-.
