Amaya Hills Resort: A Hilltop Hideaway Facing Heerassagala Forest
We were on our way to Kandy after climbing the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, but I had no idea we’d be staying in a hillside paradise. Sri Lanka Tourism Board treated me to a wonderful stay at the Amaya Hills Resort in Kandy’s Herrassagala neighbourhood. With its outstanding and iridescent landscape views, Amaya Hills Kandy offers the first-rate standard for luxury in Kandy, tracing regal glamour and captivating monarchical charms from a bygone period.
Staying here means being treated like royalty for the duration of your holiday. The open verandah lobby welcome was dazzling with lights when I checked in late at night. It was cool, but not freezing. Let’s just say the weather was ideal for you to stay in the lobby a bit longer than your check-in time. I was hoping for a late check-in this time because I was enjoying the atmosphere and the lovely weather.
I moved towards the backside of the reception, where I could see the pool and one side of the lighted room balconies while roaming about. The way to the restaurants was on the opposite side. An astrologer was seated at the restaurant’s entryway. He appeared to be exceedingly confident in his ability to predict people’s futures. I may not have extended my hand, but those who did appear to be pleased. At that point, a member of the reception staff approached me with my room key and guided me to the alleyway.
My baggage was the next to arrive. My deluxe room, measuring 252 square feet, was a treat to enter. This area, which was elegantly designed, exuded a seamless combination of calm and modernism. The accommodation, which is decorated in earthy colours and tones, also opens out to a balcony with spectacular views of the surrounding valleys.
Complimentary Wi-Fi, a walk-in closet, a work desk, a minibar, and a welcome offering of fresh fruits and chocolates are among the amenities in this lovely accommodation. The room’s high ceiling, which had a gorgeous oak structure, was equally interesting. Extra pillows are kept in the walk-in closet in case you need to feel more at ease. For those last-minute press needs, there’s also an iron board.
On the other side, the ensuite bathroom was a small but exquisite area with a huge bathtub. The vast assortment of complementary products and towels, on the other hand, was one of the things I loved about the lavatory. Overall, a clean washroom with all of the necessary conveniences, like a hairdryer and a smart mirror, to elevate your stay experience.
During my time at Amaya Hills Resort, I had the pleasure of dining in the Rasawasala Restaurant for dinner and breakfast. For dinner, we ate inside, and for breakfast, we ate outside. Amaya Hills Resort’s magnificent evening buffet included a blend of delectable cuisines crafted to perfection using fresh local ingredients. Vegans have their own section in the Jain department.
The Rasawasala restaurant’s interiors are attractively furnished with traditional patterns and wall hangings of Kandyan spears, creating a wonderful, one-of-a-kind historical ambience.
In my room, I had a restful night’s sleep. The next morning, though, was much better. I could see mountains veiled in mist and fog from my balcony, a vista that I could have gazed at for hours. Breakfast was enjoyed amid the breathtaking views of the Knuckles Mountain range.
It’s fantastic to eat breakfast in the open air, especially when you’re in a hill station. I thoroughly liked every minute of my time at Amaya Hills Resort.
Thank you to the Sri Lanka Tourism Board for introducing me to this facility, and even more so to the hotel personnel for treating me so well. I can’t wait to return, and if any of you are planning a trip to Kandy anytime soon, this is the place to stay.
