When in Indonesia: Eat Nasi Goreng Special
Nasi Goreng, the national dish of Indonesia, is a must-try when you visit the country. When it comes to Indonesian food, this one-dish sums it all up well. The Nasi Goreng Special, also known as “Pakai Telur” in Indonesia, comes with an added fried egg. This healthy dish is packed, with veggies, meat, fried rice, fresh chilli, coriander, garlic and ginger. Kecap Manis sauce, caramelised soy sauce, and seed oils are traditionally used to prepare Nasi Goreng.
As a bonus, other nutrients found in this earthy and flavourful meal include shallots, shrimp paste, eggs and the salted dried fish. Nusa Lembongan is where I tatsed my first Indonesian Special Nasi Goreng. The restaurant served a filling lunch that featured an inverted bowl of stir-fried rice, fried chicken, prawn crackers, and chicken satay with peanut sauce and a fried egg on top. They provide a vegetarian option for individuals who don’t want meat in their lunch.
However, it was the magnificent backdrop of various small boats/yachts and luxury cruises drifting over the crystalline waters of Lembongan that made my lunch even more special. Even in December, Nusa Lembongan is hot, so I had to combine my lunch with a cold coffee. The cold coffee slid down my throat like a refreshing treacle, settling all of the delectable food in my tummy.
